Synopsis

In his breathtakingly visual debut feature film, Adrian Kays creates a haunting depiction of a troubled young man searching for his past. Set in the Deep South, Stillwater explores the experiences of Andrew Morrison, a recent college graduate struggling to discover his familial roots while dealing with the shocking discovery of his own adoption.

Utilizing the beautiful and elusive imagery of the south, candid performances and unexpected horror, Stillwater deftly examines a dark and seductive southern landscape that surrounds a young man’s journey into a past that haunts his existence, a reality that proves to be both raw and deeply disturbing.

Another impressive work is Adrian Kays’ moody, increasingly ominous “STILLWATER”, which glues attention from Frame 1 as a young man (Andrew Hulse) in a quiet rural Georgia town accidentally discovers his true parentage. His attempt to track down his birth mother has disquieting consequences for the young man himself. Very elliptical but stylish and commanding. – Kevin Thomas – LA Times.
